NY4US for Kansas (Oct. 12, 2020)

With just days to go until November 3rd, we are all hard at work to do everything we can to avoid the nightmare of 2016. Especially with the loss of Justice Ginsburg, it seems everything is on the line.

With so much at stake, it is critical that we fight for Democratic candidates up and down the ballot everywhere. That includes Kansas. In fact, you might be surprised to learn that the Kansas State House just needs one seat to break the Republican supermajority. Flipping a single seat means we can empower Governor Kelly (Kansas’ Democratic governor) by preventing the state legislature from overriding her vetoes. Coupled with the fact that Cook Report has rated the state’s US Senate seat as only a Lean R, we also have the chance to help flip the US Senate by getting out the vote in Kansas.

Join NY4US on Monday, October 12 to support two women candidates in Kansas who can be the difference.

  • Joana Scholtz is running for House District 40. Joana has a history of being a trailblazer, from helping integrate her high school and reopening her local NAACP chapter to serving as a military intelligence officer for the Army. Joana believes in expanding Medicaid, fully funding public schools, protecting the environment and safeguarding a woman’s right to choose.
  • Jo Ella Hoye is a Kansas native running for House District 17. The leader of the Kansas Moms Demand Action movement, Jo Ella is running to elevate the voices of Kansans and continue to fight for the health and safety of our families.

Both of these seats are winnable for Democrats—Joana’s seat was held by a Democrat as recently as 2016 and Jo Ella is running in an open district. Plus, every dollar spent in Kansas has an outsized impact—races are significantly less expensive than those in other states and both candidates are looking to raise just $75K for the entire cycle.
