The New York State Animal Protection PAC is a new political action committee that will support State candidates--Governor, Attorney General, Comptroller, State Assembly and Senate--who support the New York State Animal Protection Federation's Humane Agenda.
The Federation represents all the animal shelters, and now a growing number of rescues, in New York State. Its membership also includes animal welfare organizations such as the Westchester Cat Coalition, Feral Cat Focus, the ASPCA and HSUS.
Among the Fed's legislative victories are:
- The establishment of the Companion Animal Capital Fund which provides capital funding for shelters, and now, non-residence based rescues
- Passing the Puppy Mill Pipeline bill which bans the sale fo puppies, kittens and rabbits in pet stores
- The Companion Animal Care Standards Act for Shelters and Rescues that will heighten the level of care homeless companion animals receive across NYS
- Mandating animal abuse reporting by veterinarians
- Banning breed discrimination in homeowners insurance
- Cutting the hold time for cats
- Banning the leasing of pets in New York State
- Research Animal Retirement Act mandating that research animals be made available for adoption
