Voters have restored abortion rights, raised the minimum wage, and protected democracy through ballot measures. These victories have been powered by voter enthusiasm and diverse coalitions, but they’re not cheap. Running a statewide ballot measure campaign costs tens of millions of dollars in most states to viably compete against a monied opposition. In order to sustain the movements for reproductive rights, economic justice, and democracy, funders and donors must understand and invest in ballot measures.
