Goal thermometer

As mothers, fathers, grandparents, aunts, uncles, brothers, sisters, survivors, friends and community members, the Ohio chaptermembers of Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America are passionate about theprevention of gun violence. 93 Americans are killed every day due to gunviolence, including 7 children. We feel a responsibility to work to makethis better. A donation through this page will help our C3 work here inOhio and nationally and is tax deductible.

Here are some of the things we plan to do in Ohio in2017 and beyond that your donation could help us with:

BeSMART: MomsDemand Action for Gun Sense in America has developed the BeSMART campaign tohelp parents and adults prevent child gun deaths and injuries. Each year, Momsvolunteers hold hundreds of presentations across the country to educate parentson safe gun storage and how to help reduce unintentional child shootings. Ohiois working on outreach to law enforcement so that we may combineefforts to us bring this important message into our communities.

Wear Orange: National Gun Violence Awareness Day - June 2nd.Last year more than 500 influencers, corporations, non-profit partnerorganizations, elected officials, iconic landmarks and hundreds of thousands ofAmericans participated in the second annual National Gun Violence AwarenessDay. Wear Orange was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-oldChicago high school student killed by gunfire, who decided to honor her life bywearing orange – the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves andothers. In Ohio, each local group will be working to plan a community event tohelp recognize victims of gun violence and honor their lives. Events for 2017 arecurrently being planned for Columbus, Cincinnati, Akron, Dayton and Cleveland.

Survivor EngagementConnecting with and recognizing survivors in Everytown's survivor network is anongoing goal for Ohio. Ohio Moms members are working to recognizesurvivors and their loved ones lost to gun violence throughout the state with outreachevents, the Mother's Dream Quilt and a recognition of the 5th anniversary ofSandy Hook this year.

Leadership Training and Development: We are working to train leaders to help guide ourvolunteers into making the most of the time they have to give. Donationswill assist sending our leads to our annual national training and hopefully anin-state training this year as well.
