Build the OPC Electoral Pipeline with Cesareo and Anna!
Howdy!
As you may know I (Cesareo) am the police accountability organizer for ONE Northside (ONS) but I am also an employee of our sister organization ONE People's Campaign (OPC)! The powerful collaboration between these two organizations means that we can fight for policy changes through ONS and we can get people elected (and kick others out of office!) through OPC.
Yes! Since 2016, I’ve (Anna M.) worked on passing an incredibly transformative police accountability ordinance - Empowering Communities for Public Safety (ECPS). This time last year, I was dropping banners over the North Ave Bridge at Lake Shore Drive, marching in front of Ald. Silverstein’s office and holding Public Safety Committee meeting watch parties. Do you know what’s more exciting than passing a civilian oversight ordinance???? IMPLEMENTING IT! I can’t do it alone though. Can you throw down with Cesareo and I to build a pipeline of strong grassroots candidates that support police accountability?
We are both working hard to implement the ECPS in a way that maintains the integrity, spirit and community values that so many community members poured into the ordinance. Now we have the unique opportunity to run candidates for these new community focused district council positions through OPC. We will be doing deep canvasses on public safety, recruiting folks for phone banks and training our grassroots candidates as they take on their first district council elections. We have a goal of raising $1400 together so we can build bold grassroots campaigns and leaders that prioritize public safety values that keep everyone safe.
