Lawanna Gelzer is a community visionary and proven leader, as demonstrated by her involvement with more than 30 organizations. Lawanna’s many community activities include her service on boards and committees where she fought steadfastly for funding for many of the impoverished communities within our city. 

Lawanna is running for Orlando City Commissioner (District 5) to promote community priorities that include: increasing affordable housing for working people; creating stronger climate and environmental equity policies; improving public safety and police relations; fighting for a livable wage to increase quality of life; and enhancing our local youth and senior programs.

Lawanna has worked with community groups such as the Coalition of 100 Black Women - Central Florida, League of Women Voters of Orange County, Community Equity Project, Tangelo Park YMCA, and the Mayor's Dr. Martin Luther King Commission to help improve the lives of many local residents.

Lawanna also has over 35 years of providing fiscal management and quality assurance services to local businesses and individuals. She is the president and CEO of a fiscal management consultant company that services community-based agencies. For the last 38 years, Lawanna has served as the Co-owner of Peabo Childcare Center located in the Parramore Community.

To this day, Lawanna remains an outspoken advocate for community improvement at all levels. Now, she is ready to serve as our next Orlando City Commissioner for District 5.
