Protect Sen. Ortiz from far-right intimidation
Top Republicans in Arizona are calling for our State Senator Analise Ortiz to be expelled from office and investigated for simply resharing a post on her Instagram story about potential ICE activity outside of a school. It's put our champion for the people in the crosshairs of far-right extremists who are gleefully supporting the erosion of our constitutional rights. Sen. Ortiz isn't backing down but she needs our donations to run for re-election.
In a statement she said:
"These intimidation tactics will not scare me. I will continue alerting our community to avoid the area when Trump’s masked thugs are out terrorizing everyone, including U.S. citizens and lawful residents. Every individual has the right to know when and where law enforcement activity of any kind is taking place in an effort to protect themselves, in the same way people use popular apps to alert each other about speed traps. The Fifth Amendment guarantees due process rights to any person present in our country and the First Amendment guarantees my right to free speech.
ICE is lurking outside schools in our community, disappearing people of all statuses, and causing unwarranted fear. Trump has made clear he does not respect our laws, our immigration process, nor our constitution. I have a duty to keep my community safe from these unconstitutional and authoritarian actions."
