About Justin Pearson

A community organizer, Pearson became the second youngest lawmaker serving in the Tennessee House of Representatives when he was elected to office January 24, 2023, at the age of 28. When a mass shooter took the lives of six people – three of them 9-year-olds – at The Covenant School in Nashville, TN on March 27, 2023, Pearson, along with fellow state representatives Justin Jones and Gloria Johnson, staged a protest for common sense gun legislation on the Tennessee House floor. Republicans retaliated by expelling Pearson and Jones April 6, 2023. Local authorities in Memphis and Nashville reinstated the legislators several days later. Pearson ran for the office again, handily winning back the seat with nearly 94 percent of the vote. As a State Representative, Pearson has been on the frontlines of fighting back against Donald Trump and Elon Musk. As Donald Trump has deployed the National Guard in Memphis, Rep. Pearson has been the strongest local voice taking on the President. As Musk has continued to build out his xAI data center in South Memphis, Pearson has organized locally to fight back against the project, partnering with groups like the NAACP and MCAP to attempt to halt the project. Where other local leaders have remained silent, or in some instances cheered on Musk’s attempts to pollute South Memphis, Pearson has taken the fight directly to Musk. Through his work locally, Representative Justin J. Pearson has proven he has the courage and ability to build strong coalitions to fight on behalf of the people. Congressman Steve Cohen has represented the district for nearly two decades, and has been in elected office for four decades. He has had a long career of public service, but this moment calls for a true fighter. That’s what Justin J. Pearson will bring to Congress.
