About Melat Kiros
Melat Kiros is a 29 year old, first-generation Ethiopian immigrant who grew up in Denver after her family left Tigray in 1998. Her parents worked two and three jobs at a time while neighbors helped raise her. She's a barista, a former attorney, and a PhD student who lives in the same economic squeeze as the many working families in the district. She's running on Medicare for All, an arms embargo on Israel, abolishing ICE, housing as a human right, and ending the corporate money that corrupts Congress. Melat sacrificed her own livelihood to stand up for Palestinian rights and students protesting against Israel’s genocide in Gaza. When she was terminated for her Palestinian rights activism, she refused to be silent and was empowered to be bolder and run for office to make the real changes we need. Melat stands with the majority of Democrats who want to end military funding to Israel and will work to end the billions of dollars that the US government sends to support Israel’s genocide, illegal occupation, and apartheid. If elected to Congress, she will co-sponsor the Block the Bombs Act.
