Goal thermometer

Born the youngest of 14 children in Michoacan, Mexico, Patty immigrated to the United States with her mom seeking to escape poverty and find the opportunity to succeed.

Settling in the Pacoima neighborhood of Los Angeles, Patty soon began working to help support her family. No stranger to hard work, Patty spent her teens and twenties cleaning houses, babysitting children, working as a professional in-home caretaker for the elderly.

She decided she wanted more than that, not so much for herself but for her family and specifically her children. She taught herself English and then attended adult school at night, earning her GED, and took vocational classes at Los Angeles Community College.

In 2013, after the closure of 20 local schools, Patty decided that she would run for the State Assembly after seeking and obtaining no results from her elected officials. She decided to run in order to make a statement and hoped to voice how fed up the community was with the status quo and bring attention to the issues that mattered. As a State Assembly member, Patty Lopez can be counted on as a strong progressive voice, much needed in the Assembly.

Many of her passed legislation has affected the environment, foster care, families, criminal justice, and education. Patty López earned a perfect score from the Courage Campaign in their review of her 2015 voting record. In 2016, she was honored by the National Women's Political Caucus as the recipient of their annual Leadership award. She was also given the annual Green Leadership Award in 2016. Patty Lopez’s personal story truly represents the American Dream. As she seeks re-election to the California State Assembly, Patty Lopez would be honored to have your support.
