Bold progressive Tom Perriello is using his race for Virginia governor to show Democrats how progressives can fight boldly in the era of Trump.
When Donald Trump announced the United States withdrawal from the Paris Climate Accords, Perriello hit back hard: "Today, President Trump failed his basic promise to serve and protect the security of the United States of America ... This was truly all of humanity coming together to solve a problem that threatens all of humanity. ... At the state level, we will do our part to step up and lead on addressing climate change and making sure that our coastline here in Virginia, and all of our clean air and clean water is protected."
And he's winning. New polling shows he leads his opponent in the Democratic primary, thanks to bold messaging -- and endorsements from the PCCC, Bernie Sanders, and Elizabeth Warren.
In Congress, Perriello supported climate legislation, a public option, and the DREAM Act. A win in this race will impact the grassroots energy and political conventional wisdom going into 2018.
