When Zohran Mamdani ran for mayor, Claire Valdez was the first elected official to stand with him. Now the Mayor is helping send her to Washington.
A former UAW organizer and state Assembly member, Claire won the June 23 Democratic primary for New York's open 7th District, defeating a better-known, better-funded Brooklyn Borough President by running on a bold economic-populist message.
As Mamdani put it: "Claire Valdez stood with me on day one because she understands how change is won: by building power, raising expectations, and delivering for working people."
Her win was part of a clean sweep by Mayor Mamdani's endorsed slate, three progressive challengers who all advanced to November and unseated two establishment Democrats along the way.
It's proof that when Democrats show up with a real answer for working people, they win.
