It's impossible to overstate Congressman John Conyers' importance to the progressive movement--and especially to Progressive Democrats of America. Mr. Conyers welcomed Tim Carpenter to Capitol Hill back in the 1970s, long before there was a PDA. He keynoted our 2004 launch in Roxbury, MA, and chaired our investigations into Ohio voting irregularities during the 2004 elections. He's been a fixture on our National Advisory Board ever since.
Mr. Conyers always answers our call. He co-chaired our Healthcare Not Warfare campaign. His website banner shows him proudly wearing a sticker from that campaign, standing next to co-chair Donna Smith. Many know him as the author and lead sponsor of HR 676, the Medicare for All / Single Payer Healthcare Bill. And of the Martin Luther King Jr. Holiday legislation. And of HR 1000, the Jobs for All Bill.
He's also the Dean of the Congressional Progressive Caucus and the Congressional Black Caucus. He co-founded of the Out of Iraq Caucus and the Jobs for All Caucus. He is the former (and hopefully the future) Chair of the Judiciary Committee, and currently serves as the Ranking Member. He is all this and much more. Mr. Conyers is the heart of the progressive movement, and the soul of our work as PDA.
