Born and raised in New Jersey to Colombian immigrant parents, Brian Varela put himself through college, then went on to financially support his family during his mother’s cancer diagnosis, treatment, and ultimate passing. He started a marketing agency and eventually opened multiple affordable childcare centers across the state. Varela has also helped political candidates build infrastructure and engage lower propensity voters.
He believes in a humane approach to foreign focused on aid not war: "I strongly support reversing Trump’s cruel and deadly cuts to USAID, to ensure the United States once again leads the world in fighting hunger and improving global health to millions of the world’s most vulnerable.” Additionally, Brian "would advocate for the US to have serious dialogue with other nuclear-armed nations to put the world on a pathway to a nuclear-free world."
