At over $800 billion, the so-called Department of Defense, now rebranded by Trump as the 'Department of War,' shows us what it really is: a machine for militarism, not defense. We see these costs every day in Hawai'i. Land taken for bases, contamination from Red Hill, and communities forced to live with the burden of militarization. Cutting at least $100 billion is the bare minimum. Those dollars should go to true security: caring for service members and their families, strengthening diplomacy, and investing in housing, health care, education, and climate resilience so our people can thrive."
