The UNC Peer Support Board shows that over 3,800 people have received certification as peer supports. But on the Eastern side of North Carolina, there are 10 peer supports in Beaufort County, an area of over 40,000 people where there is a 19% homeless rate or 65 peer supports in Pitt County an area of over 110,000 people with a homeless rate of over 20%.
These areas lack access to peers. News articles reported recently via WITN, that the managed care organization, Trillium is being forced to decrease services and funding. When this occurs the need for effective recovery access will increase even more.
Please sponsor an individual(s) to complete a certified peer support training on 11/15-11/19 to obtain the peer support certification from the state which allows them opportunity for gainful employment by supporting others through their lived experiences.
