ABOUT TED PHILIPS

A lifelong resident of Sharon, Massachusetts, Ted is a proud graduate of Sharon High School and earned his undergraduate degree in Political Science from the University of Massachusetts at Amherst. He also holds a Master's Degree in Public Administration from the Sawyer School of Business at Suffolk University.

Upon graduating from UMass, Ted returned home and immediately involved himself in his community. He joined Sharon's Finance Committee and has served thirteen years on that board, three of them as Vice-Chair. He is also a member and former Secretary of the Sharon Lions Club, a member of Sharon's Master Plan Steering Committee, and a former member of the Town of Sharon's 250th Anniversary Committee, which was celebrated in 2015. He is also a lector at Our Lady of Sorrows Parish.

Professionally, Ted worked in the Massachusetts State Senate for Senator Stephen M. Brewer of Barre for a year before transferring to the office of State Representative Louis Kafka of the 8th Norfolk District, whom he ultimately succeeded in the House of Representatives. He worked with Lou for thirteen years, rising from Legislative Aide to Committee Director to Staff Director.

Over that time, Ted was instrumental in helping to pass legislation ensuring insurance coverage for children with cleft palate and cleft lip, providing emergency access to restrooms for Crohn's & Colitis patients, requiring police departments to be notified when licenses are suspended in their jurisdictions, and curbing animal cruelty in the Commonwealth, along with other bills.

In 2020, Ted was elected to represent the 8th Norfolk District in the Massachusetts State House. He is proud to serve on the Joint Committees on Community Development and Small Businesses; Economic Development and Emerging Technologies; Municipalities and Regional Government; and Veterans and Federal Affairs.

Ted and his wife, Bridget, live in Sharon with their rescue dog, Lincoln.
