Our 2020 Playa Gift

Goal thermometer

This year, we didn't get to drive down Gate Road, massively excited and sleep deprived after 48 hours of frantic packing and prep.

But we can still show up in Nevada to do some extra-special gifting.

Like you, we've been to BRC, loved it, learned from it, and this year we've taken some time to understand the extra help that's needed near Reno.

Burners are givers, so let's redistribute some of our playa dues to Nevada.

There are incredible Nevada & Washoe County organizations providing COVID relief and fighting for racial justice right now.

As you post your favorite memories of the Burn, let people know how they can gift this year by tagging @playagift2020.

Will You Give?

Consider sending love with some of what you would have spent on the playa...

  • $25, or the cost of your baby wipe supply
  • $50, or your lifetime investment in El Wire
  • $100, or the cost of the gas you pump in Sparks
  • $200, or the fancy champagne you packed for your friends' playa wedding
  • $500, or the cost of a precious holographic ticket
  • $1,000, or the inexplicably high RV parking fee your camp charges
  • $10,000, or those expensive art car repairs

Causes:

  • Forced Trajectory Project: https://www.forcedtrajectory.com/about. FTP is a media, public relations and advocacy organization that documents the rippling effects police violence has on communities beginning with the families who have lost their loved ones.
  • Domestic Violence Resource Center in Reno: https://domesticviolenceresourcecenter.org/. The Center is experiencing record requests for assistance while facing decreased funding. Survivors' concerns about finances, safety, and homelessness are amplified during the pandemic. Donations fund emergency shelter & motel assistance, the 24-hour crisis hotline, virtual victim support groups, counseling & financial coaching.
  • Food Bank of Northern Nevada: https://fbnn.org/. Demand is up 40% since COVID hit. 2,000 kids per day are eating through the food bank, up from 500 per day in prior years.
  • Progressive Leadership Alliance of Nevada: https://planevada.org/. PLAN is organizing bail support for protestors this summer through the Vegas Freedom Fund. PLAN has been organizing for economic & environmental justice in Nevada since 1994.
  • Acting in Community Together in Organizing Northern Nevada (ACTIONN): https://actionn.org/. During COVID19, ACTIONN provides direct financial assistance to Washoe County through mini-grants to the thousands of immigrants and their families in Nevada have been left out of or are ineligible to receive COVID-19 financial relief funds and resources. Funds go directly to those in need for missed rent, groceries, and DACA renewals.
  • Pyramid Lake Paiute Tribe's Victims Services Program: http://plpt.nsn.us/vservices/index.html. Survivors of relationship abuse and other violent crime can access support through the Tribe's center. Demand for transitional housing is up 500% during COVID.
