Investing in our Youngest Activists: Support our Poderosos Youth Program!

Juntos is committed to building the social and political consciousness of our youngest members as we invest in developing the next generation of strong community leaders. Youth education comprises a third of our work and is at the core of our mission to support healthy, thriving Latine families in Philadelphia. To that end, we are seeking to raise $10,000 in grassroots donations by May 30th, 2025 to resource our Poderosos program.

Within the ecosystem of our youth programming for ages 5-18, Poderosos (Strong Ones) serves our youngest members, ages 5-12 and - like most of Juntos’ programming - was created at the request of parents and community members in 2021. Parents desired a space specific to their younger children in which they could engage with their cultural heritage in meaningful ways while exploring arts, wellness, and political education.

From its creation, Poderosos has never had a dedicated budget line; we have continued running it and allocating staff time and resources over the last four years because we believe deeply in its importance. Due to our limited resources, Poderosos was operating once a month for several years and now meets biweekly at the request of parents. Families are once again asking us to increase the frequency to at least weekly sessions in order to provide their children additional support at this difficult time.

Now more than ever, the need to support life-giving spaces for our immigrant children is clear. We are therefore seeking to create a Poderosos budget line to properly resource this program for the rest of the year while we also seek additional sources of longer-term funding. Our goal is to raise $10,000 through grassroots donations by May 30th, 2025!

This money will go towards buying materials (project supplies, snacks, books, etc), compensating staff and teen interns for their time in designing and leading sessions, and incorporating trips for littles and families.

We are calling on all of our friends, allies, and community members to support the Juntos’ community youngest members in accessing a space for their healthy development. Every donation is a significant show of solidarity and collective power and will get invested directly into the development of a young person in our community.

Please donate here — your support strengthens the fight for immigrant justice and ensures our youth have access to spaces that support their power and resilience.
