I am Karina Guzman Ortiz, proud mother of two Salem Keizer School District students and daughter of dedicated and resilient Mexican immigrants. Salem has been my home since childhood, I attended and graduated from this district from K-12.
I’ve had the opportunity to work directly with young children, youth, and families. I attended community college and went on to earn a Master of Social Work. I am running to serve another term on the Salem-Keizer School Board because I care deeply about our children, families and educators.
Every child has the right to learn and deserves to do so in a supportive environment.
From adequate school funding to quality education, from mental health supports to school safety, from graduation rates to 3rd grade reading, we must continue to work together to improve our students' learning experiences and learning outcomes.
I am committed to ensuring that our schools - the same schools my children are in - are safe, welcoming centers of academic excellence.
Together, we have more work to do.
