NC Governor – Roy Cooper
Recommended Amount: $5,400
The Candidate: Gov. Roy Cooper (D) has spent nearly three decades in public service as a member of the North Carolina Legislature, as attorney general, and now as governor. He has been an advocate of LGBTQ North Carolinians in every stage of his career and is hopeful that Democrats will win control of the State House and Senate in 2020.
The Case for Support: In 2016, then-Attorney General Roy Cooper defeated the conservative, anti-equality incumbent governor by under 10,000 votes. In 2020, he faces anti-equality Lt. Gov. Dan Forest (R). If re-elected along pro-equality legislative majorities, Gov. Cooper has committed to championing and signing equality legislation. Turnout for this race may help drive voters to elect other pro-equality champions on the ballot, including federal and judicial candidates.
