Institute for Radical Permission

The Institute for Radical Permission is a transformative collaboration between Sonya Renee Taylor and adrienne maree brown to live a life rooted in your deepest YES.

Oppressive systems and structures of this world can distance us from our divine nature. For most of us, the permission to be our full, authentic, and divine selves was interrupted early in our lives, replaced by people-pleasing, self-denial, and scarcity.

To experience liberation, we have to give ourselves radical permission to live our lives rooted in our deepest YES. That’s why Sonya Renee Taylor and adrienne maree brown created the Institute for Radical Permission. The Institute offers a wealth of collected wisdom from Sonya, adrienne, and over a dozen different integration practitioners that shows you how you, too, can begin a liberatory journey into your own divine power.

BLM Phoenix Metro, UUJAZ, and the UU Funding Panel partnered to bring this experience to leaders in Arizona, recognizing a need for community care and spiritual grounding for our movement leaders.

Starting September 9th 2023, and continuing through March 2024, you'll experience 6 units:

September: Honing your body technology

How can you deepen your relationship with your body? How can you unearth the wisdom it is trying to share with you? Understanding and partnering with your body is part of claiming your full and free self.

October: Self worship

Is there any part of your divine nature you've been denying? Give yourself permission to embrace and honor your divinity! Self worship will help you return to your inner sacred space.

November: Loving your shadows

What have you hidden from yourself? What have you deemed unloveable? There can be no light without dark. For us to fully shine we must embrace our shadows.

January: Mutual worship

In what ways are you closing yourself off to or withholding support, love, and care from and for others? How can you give yourself permission to help and ask for help? To trust and be trusted? To let yourself be known and cherished?

February: Life alignment

Your divine assignment is what you are called to do in this world, how you express your beliefs through action. Where are you frustrated with the tension between your aspirations and reality? How can you allow your most powerful gifts to emerge?

March: Emergent session

Deepen and expand the power of permission with yourself and others? As we unlearn limiting beliefs and free ourselves from oppressive systems, we can imagine and help create a different future.

What We Receive

Each month we will explore in the following ways. Remember, each piece is optional and flexible... take what works for you and leave the rest.

*Six core units with Sonya and adrienne, in dialogue on video, in which they lay out the foundational theory and concepts of radical permission. We'll have the option of watching this video once each month together in person, on zoom, or on our own at a time that's convenient for you.

*Instructional videos from our 15 integration practitioners chosen carefully by Sonya and adrienne to help you integrate what you learn into your daily life. We will meet on the second and fourth Saturdays 10:30am-12:30pm to practice integration in person, on zoom, or you can practice on your own or in your "found family" pod.

*Digital copy of Journal of Radical Permission with daily questions to guide you in your work. You can explore the journal questions corresponding to each month's unit in your journaling, therapy, and/or meditation practices.

*Discussion Guide with reflection questions and exercises to work through with your "found family" pod. All of us will be grouped together with 5-7 folks to have a monthly discussion about our radical permission learnings. You can set this 90 minute discussion at a monthly day and time that works for your pod.

*Accessible content: video recordings have professional closed captioning and are also available as audio and transcripts

*Comprehensive list of all resources: books, therapeutic techniques, and tools from the course, plus participant recommendations.

*Lifetime access to all course content

TL/DR: what am I committing to?

*integration practice twice a month

*a found family pod discussion once a month

*journal prompts

*all flexible: in a large group, small group, online, or on your own
