End the backlog of untested DNA rape evidence
The city of Detroit just announced that for years they've been in possession of DNA evidence that could have put over 100 serial rapists behind bars. But since they didn't have enough funding to send the rape kits to the lab, the rapists walked free.
In fact, there are more than 400,000 untested rape kits nationwide, according to the Department of Justice.
The good news is that President Obama's proposed budget for this year includes enough money to end the backlog of unexamined rape kits.
