Before running for Congress, Rashida worked as an attorney and community advocate, fighting for families who were too often ignored by those in power. She later made history as the first Muslim woman elected to the Michigan Legislature, where she focused on helping families navigate everyday challenges and connecting people with resources and services.

When she was elected to Congress, she became one of the first Muslim women ever to serve in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Since then, Rashida has remained deeply rooted in the communities she represents. She opened multiple neighborhood service centers across her district to help residents access housing support, federal benefits, and other essential resources. Her office has helped thousands of families resolve cases and return millions of dollars in benefits to the community.

At the same time, Rashida has been a fearless national leader. As Vice Chair of the Congressional Progressive Caucus, she has pushed for bold policies that confront corporate greed, protect consumers, expand housing access, and defend the rights of working families.

She has also helped lead investigations and accountability efforts in Congress, challenging abuses of power and defending democratic institutions.

And when it comes to human rights, Rashida has never been afraid to speak with moral clarity—even when it comes at a political cost.
