Donate to Re-Elect VanCedric Williams for Oakland School Board D3

VanCedric Williams is a 24-year teacher elected in 2020 to District 3 of the Oakland School Board and is running for re-election.

West Oakland has been VanCedric Williams’s home for 17 years, and has shaped who he is today. Williams has focused throughout his career on racial and social justice with an equity lens for our public schools and communities. When students learn from a culturally relevant curriculum, they do better and feel better about themselves. Every student should receive nothing less than the highest quality education.

Williams began his work in education first as a para educator, then as a teacher. He also became union treasurer in San Francisco, and is currently a state regional director supporting 16,000 educators at the California Teachers Association. He has dedicated his career to teaching students in the most underserved communities and has fought tirelessly for fair and equitable school funding, transformative community schools, livable wages, health care, and pensions for school employees, including educators and paraprofessionals.

His core values include creating an equitable and antiracist environment that allows students and staff to realize their full potential and be whole in their humanity. He believes that our district must provide resources to help our students find and develop their individual and collective identities so that they can enter the world and create a better future for themselves and society.

Williams is committed to transforming our traditional schools to a Community Schools model, involving students, families, and communities in advocating for our public schools, ensuring EVERY student has a quality educational experience and EVERY parent/guardian is proud and fulfilled by their children's learning outcomes. EVERY educator works and EVERY student learns in a safe, just, and vibrant equitable school, cultivating a community-minded generation of scholars to reimagine our systems and institutions.
