I don't know about you, but I am exhausted from feeling helpless, scared and angry about rampant gun violence in our country and our state.

We can't go to the doctor, a restaurant, school, our place of worship, or a concert without fear of being shot. Recently, we also found out we have to worry about knocking on the wrong door, pulling into the wrong driveway or our child's ball rolling into the neighbor's yard. Our lives are being disrupted and our children are being traumatized.

It's time to DO something!

Last Session, I filed HB 584, the Georgia Red Flag Protective Order Reproductive Act. Chairman Collins never gave us a hearing, but the bill is still alive for the 2024 Session.

In light of the May 3rd mass shooting here in Atlanta where the shooter's mental health was at issue, it's time to pass HB 584 which would provide to our police a path to ask a judge to temporarily bar dangerous individuals from possessing or purchasing a firearm.

Florida passed their red flag law after the Parkland shooting -- another example of a foreseeable shooting. Nineteen states and D.C. have red flag laws and they are working. Of course we can't prevent every shooting, but there are so many where the shooter telegraphs his intentions and/or his mental instability. These are the ones we can DO something about!

It is time to turn up the pressure on Republicans before our January Session so we can convince them Georgia needs a red flag law too!

But I cannot do it alone.

A campaign of this magnitude is too big of a job for just me. I need support staff with experience in preparing and executing issue campaigns like gun violence prevention.
