If you haven't heard, it's back to the redrawing board of our voting maps!

Judge Steve Jones ruled that Georgia's Congressional and state legislative maps violated Section 2 of the Voting Rights Act and ordered us to redraw maps that would include majority black districts: one for U.S. Congress, 5 for State House, and 2 for State Senate. He gave us a deadline of December 8th. And Governor Kemp signed a proclamation directing us to report for Special Session on Wednesday, November 29th. This decision was a huge victory for all Georgians, ensuring that the citizens can choose their leaders and not the other way around.

So the maps situation is stressful because even though Judge Jones directed us generally to where the new majority Black districts should be drawn, Republicans could try to offset those 5 new seats by eliminating white Democratic incumbents. They could draw us into districts that are more Republican or they could draw two Democrats together forcing a primary.

Because I could be targeted, I need to be prepared for anything. I can't assume HD52 will be a relatively safe seat like it is now.

As you know, we are not allowed to fundraise during the legislative session, including the special session. So I only have between now and Nov. 29th, and then a couple of weeks in between the holidays in December. Once regular Session starts in early January, I can't fundraise again until April. And the 2024 election will be right on top of us.

If HD52 is more competitive, I must have the resources and staff ready to go so we don't lose this seat that we all fought so hard to flip!

It continues to be my honor to serve HD52 and Georgia, but I have so much left to accomplish: ensuring access to affordable, quality healthcare, restoring reproductive rights, passing common sense gun safety laws, providing our children with a quality education and an opportunity to thrive from cradle to career, and making sure our children and generations to come will have clean air to breath and water to drink. The only way to do that is to take the majority in the State House so the Republicans have to work with us.

We only need 12 seats right now, and maybe only 7 after the maps are redrawn. But we can't take anything for granted. We have to protect every seat we have gained. Help me to protect HD52 and all the other districts we fought so hard to win.

There's so much work ahead and I'm up to the task, but I can't do it without YOU!
