Dear Residents of District C,
I humbly announce my candidacy for re-election to the Alexandria City School Board representing District C. As a proud 4th generation Alexandrian, T.C. Williams High School alum, and dedicated parent of three children who have all attended Alexandria City Public Schools, I am deeply invested in the success and well-being of our educational system.
Over the years, I have served our community in various capacities, from coaching varsity football to mentoring high school student-athletes.
My experience as a substitute teacher for grades 9-12 has equipped me with invaluable communication, organizational, and administrative skills.
I have had the privilege of serving two terms each as the Vice-Chair of the Alexandria Human Rights Commission and as President of the Alexandria Branch of the NAACP. Moreover, I have established a professional career as a Board Certified Safety Professional (CSP), specializing in the construction of schools and multi-use facilities. Over the past 15 years, I have been the proprietor of an Alexandria-based consulting firm dedicated to Occupational Safety, Management, and Training, catering to individuals, organizations, and government entities alike.
My dedication to service and advocacy has equipped me to effectively represent the interests of our children on the school board for a second term.
My campaign will focus on these key issues:
- Enhancing School Safety: Ensuring the safety of our students and educators is a top priority. With my extensive background in infrastructure safety and sustainable urban development, I am uniquely qualified to address school safety in Alexandria. Safe schools are essential for effective learning and teaching. By addressing safety comprehensively, we can create an environment where students feel secure, educators can teach effectively, and parents have peace of mind.
- School Funding: Adequate funding is essential to providing quality education for all students. We will advocate for increased funding to support vital educational programs, hire and retain skilled educators, improve school infrastructure, and offer diverse extracurricular activities that enrich the educational experience.
- Special Education and Inclusive Practices: Every student deserves the opportunity to thrive academically and socially. We will work to ensure that students with disabilities receive the necessary support services and accommodations to fully participate in general education classrooms. Embracing inclusive practices benefits all students and promotes a more diverse and supportive learning environment.
- Parent and Community Engagement: Strong partnerships between schools, parents, and community organizations are critical for student success. We will foster open lines of communication, encourage parental involvement in decision-making processes, and collaborate with community stakeholders to address concerns, celebrate achievements, and create a supportive educational ecosystem that nurtures the whole child.
