COVID-19 has given rise to looming fear and trauma in the immigrant community.
Across the nation, social, economic and healthcare inequality is widening by the minute and our most vulnerable, undocumented communities are in desperate need of financial support.
In Arizona alone, the state with the 6th largest undocumented population, approximately 1 in 10 children are currently living with at least one undocumented parent. Our children, families and neighbors living in mixed-status families are entirely left out from financial relief under the CARESAct.
This exclusion from receiving federal relief, elevates the risk of illness and intensifies trauma, particularly for children, who fear what may happen to their families if they fall ill, lose their job, and are unable to access support.
We at Aliento are invested in the well-being of the undocumented/DACA and mixed-status community. In an effort to provide relief and support to mixed-status families, we are raising $25,000 to cover costs of rent + utilities of those in need.
$25,000 will enable us to help up to 50 families with $500 support checks for rent and/or utilities. We at Aliento have created a special tracking system to donate 100% of the fundraised money directly to mixed status families. We have created an internal rubric to match the great need.
Pitch in today and join us in our mission of transforming trauma into hope for those who are most in need. Now more than ever, your contributions are critical in ensuring mixed-status families have a roof over their head, can keep their lights on and have food on their table.
If you know anyone in Arizona who was left out of the stimulus package have them fill out this survey:
