We are in a time of unprecedented attacks on our reproductive rights. In 2022 alone, there have been more than 500 anti-abortion restrictions introduced across 41 state legislatures. And now, in a majority opinion by Justice Alito, the Supreme Court has struck down Roe v. Wade.
With unconstitutional, anti-abortion legislation sweeping state legislatures and a Supreme Court that refuses to uphold the Constitution, young people are being stripped of our right to healthcare and bodily-autonomy. We need a mass youth mobilization to defend abortion.
We just hosted a nationwide youth walkout this past month where students from over 100 schools walked out for their reproductive rights. We’ve also been coordinating dozens of lobbying meetings between young people and their legislators to advocate for legislation that will defend and expand our reproductive freedoms, like the Equal Rights Amendment.
We are just getting started. This summer, we are organizing a reproductive freedom summer school that will help young people organize and advocate in their communities for abortion access through on the ground action, legislative advocacy, and more. We will keep up the heat through legislative advocacy and community-based organizing.
