No matter where in the world the quest for justice took him, the late Rev. Jesse L. Jackson's footsteps always led back to Greenville, South Carolina, the place where he was born.

Honor him by supporting the

20 Haynie Street

Rev. Jesse Jackson Sr. Birthplace Restoration Project.

Tnovsa Global Commons is working with the property owners of 20 Haynie Street and other partners to preserve the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. birthplace in Greenville, South Carolina. We believe that the property, built in 1928, has national significance and should be preserved as a historic landmark.

The site meets the following criteria for preservation:

A place where a nationally significant event occurred: the birth of the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. In 1941, Matilda Burns lived at 20 Haynie Street with her daughter Helen, who gave birth to Jesse in the home that year.

A place where a nationally significant person lived: The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. lived at 20 Haynie Street with his grandmother and mother from his birth in 1941 to about 1944.

A place that represent ideals that shaped a nation: The Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. rose from humble beginnings to becoming a major force in state, national and global affairs.

We invite you to join our Founding Donor circle for the 20 Haynie Street project. Donations received will help us meet the following goals and objectives:

  • Placing the Rev. Jesse L. Jackson Sr. birthplace on historic designation lists;
  • Conducting conditions assessments and producing plans and specs, blueprints for restorative work;
  • Installing a South Carolina Department of Archives and History (SCDAH) historical marker and other possible signage;
  • Completing restoration work that will preserve the site for decades to come in conjunction with City of Greenville and other projects honoring native son Rev. Jackson, and making sustainability plans.

We are happy to set up a virtual or in-person meeting to answer your questions about the project and encourage your participation as a founding donor.
