Detention is traumatizing and we know that everyone detained would fare better if they were free and safe at home with their families. That is why we continue the fight to #FreeThemAll. Until that happens, we have established this fund to provide meaningful care and support.

Telephone service inside immigration detention centers is provided by for-profit companies and high costs mean folks detained in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas are often not able to communicate with family, loved ones, and support organizations. The government agencies and private companies that run these facilities also deprive people in detention of basic needs like adequate food, toiletries, and hand sanitizer, and they have no choice but to purchase these items from commissaries. Agencies and companies do not allow people detained to receive food and other necessary items from communities on the outside, so financial support is the only way we can ensure that communities on the inside can meet their needs.

The Communities on the Outside Supporting Communities on the Inside Fund seeks to disrupt the isolation and deprivation that is all too common in immigration detention. In an expression of solidarity, we can reinforce the agency of people detained and their ability to care for themselves and connect with the outside world by providing financial support. The fund will support people detained in the Rio Grande Valley of Texas.
