When Attorney General James was elected in 2018, she became the first woman of color to hold statewide office in New York and the first woman to be elected Attorney General.


She has been a national leader in the fight to defend access to reproductive health care, and has focused on lowering costs for working families, holding bad actors accountable and protecting New Yorkers' rights and safety. She has sued the Trump Administration more than 50 times to protect New Yorkers' rights and funding for critical programs like healthcare, public education and good-paying jobs.
