After Sandy Hook, I could no longer sit on the sidelines and simply fear gun violence in schools. As a mom of three young kids, I worry about their safety in our community in a variety of ways, especially around the issue of gun violence. My volunteer work with Moms has given me an opportunity to make a difference in making our community safer from gun violence. This June 2nd I’ll be wearing orange to recognize National Gun Violence Awareness Day and to honor victims of gun violence. I’m also raising money to support the work that I and thousands of others do in our state.
Moms Demand Action for Gun Sense in America is a grassroots organization that works thanks to thousands of volunteers in chapters in all 50 states. Our BeSmart campaign educates families to prevent child gun deaths and injuries. Our Survivor Network brings together Americans who have been personally affected by gun violence to work to reduce gun violence. Locally, we'll be busy preparing the community to recognize Gun Violence Awareness Month in June.
I believe so strongly in what Moms volunteers are doing here in our community and around the country that I've challenged myself to raise $500 for Moms Demand Action by June 2nd- Gun Violence Awareness Day.
Will you join me in the fight against gun violence with a gift to support our public education programs and our work with gun violence survivors?
