Yoga Fundraiser for Faizah Malik!

Join Harpinder Mann, Rima Abu-Isa,Tejal Patel, Melissa Shah, and Susanna Barkataki for an intimate evening of movement work from all angles! We’re gathering for a meet and greet with District 11 city council candidate Faizah Malik and yoga educators at the intentional Rooh Sanctuary followed by a seated restorative yoga practice, focused on for your rest and renewal.

 

All experiences welcome, you do not need prior experience with yoga. The yoga we do will be accessible, inclusive and trauma informed.


Please bring a yoga mat or anything else you’d be comfy sitting or lying on. 


Please note: The Sanctuary is located on the 2nd floor and can only be accessed by stairs. 

Floor seating and a limited qty of chairs available for the event. 


Parking is limited: street parking, rideshare, walk, or bike to join us!


About Faizah:


Faizah Malik is one of LA’s leading public interest lawyers and housing advocates. For over 15 years, she’s fought to keep thousands of Angelenos in their homes, created new affordable housing, and championed policies that bring stability and opportunity to working families.


Faizah’s roots in LA and the Westside run deep. The eldest daughter of South Asian Muslim immigrants, her family came to LA over 50 years ago, building small businesses and community institutions that shaped their neighborhood.


About Harpinder Mann


Harpinder Mann (she/her) is a skilled trauma-informed yoga teacher, a Somatic Experiencing practitioner, and the author of Liberating Yoga: From Appropriation to Healing based on Tongva land. 



About Rima Abu-Isa


Rima Abu-Isa Thierry is a first generation Palestinian American, Muslim raised lover of the Divine in all expressions. She is a birthworker, space holder, yoga and meditation teacher and mother to four boys.


About Tejal Patel


A first-generation Indian American yoga teacher, mentor, and space-holder rooted in decolonization and culturally-grounded practice. 


Tejal weaves yoga, social justice, and community care into spaces free from injustice, harm, and toxic elitism, guiding people toward embodied awareness and collective healing.


Her work is an invitation to return to the body, reclaim space, and reconnect with self and community through intentional, liberation-centered movement.


About Melissa Shah


Mellssa Shah is the founder of Find Your Breath, and is a first-gen Indian-American yoga therapist, community builder, and public health advocate. Their work is rooted in a holistic and social justice oriented approach to the healing arts, supporting people of all ages globally through 1:1 yoga therapy and mentorship, therapeutic classes, retreats, and social emotional learning in schools. Holding over 2000 years of study and training in yoga, she is currently writing a book on the therapeutic applications of mantra. 


About Susanna Barkataki


Susanna Barkataki is the founder of Ignite Institute for yogic leadership and social change. Train in authentic yoga: YTT 200 Foundations, YTT300 Advanced, 500 Hour Yoga Therapy Certification and 50 hour Trauma Informed Yoga Social Justice Certification.
