The tragic murder of George Floyd, after countless others, on May 25, and the subsequent failure of the Minneapolis Police Department to take swift action sparked outrage across the country -- and the world.
Floyd's murder was an unwelcome reminder of how deeply entrenched the roots of systemic racism are in this country, how broken our criminal justice system is, and how frequently our police officers treat Black people with little or no regard for their humanity.
We believe that Black Lives Matter, and we believe in doing everything we can to root out racism in all its many, terrible forms.
Today, in honor of Juneteenth, a day that commemorates Union troops marching to Texas to enforce the Emancipation Proclamation by freeing 250,000 enslaved people, we're asking you to make a donation to the NAACP, Black Lives Matter, and the Southern Poverty Law Center.
For many, Juneteenth is a celebratory day symbolizing the end of slavery in the south. But this year, we are even more focused on freedom -- on the constitutional promise that America has thus far failed to deliver on. Instead, we ask you to take action by contributing whatever you can afford to three organizations who have been doing incredible work to combat racial injustice.
Help us raise $10,000 by midnight tonight to support these organizations.
