Rubén is running to represent Berkeley City Council District 4. As Chief of Staff for Berkeley Councilmember Terry Taplin, Rubén has worked to advance legislation on gun violence and criminal justice reform, create housing near BART stations, develop a West Berkeley Green New Deal, expand bus and ferry service alongside electric vehicle charging, and improve safety for pedestrians and cyclists. He serves as President of East Bay Young Democrats and immediate Past President of the Latine Young Democrats of the East Bay.
An immigrant, first-generation college graduate, and renter, Rubén is committed to fighting for the people without a voice, working to uplift young people and people of color to give them a seat at the table. On Council, he will tackle the housing affordability crisis and protect renters, provide care for our unsheltered neighbors, revitalize our Downtown, strengthen police accountability and non-police interventions, and advance the city’s climate action plan and reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Rubén is participating in the City of Berkeley's public financing program, and rejects all contributions from corporations and special interest groups. Donations of up to $60 from Berkeley residents will be matched 6:1 by the city. Fill out the Public Financing Matching Form here.
