Sunset Run for Refugees

Goal thermometer

June 19, 2020

Originally formed in the nation’s capital of Washington, DC in May of 2017, Sunset Run for Refugees is an inclusive community and organization comprised of runners, veterans, first responders, refugee advocates, and their families and friends, whose shared purpose is the creation of a beautiful and impactful candlelight run and vigil at sunset to commemorate World Refugee Day–June 20th each year. Through this beautiful event, we hope to shine light and hope out into the world in support of refugees.

Through the Sunset Run for Refugees, we aim to accomplish three specific goals:

  • We aim to raise awareness of the plight of refugees, migrants, and other displaced persons across the world.
  • Through broad participation in these events, Sunset Run For Refugees also strives to raise funds for major, non-denominational refugee relief organizations that aid, support, and empower refugees, migrants, and displaced persons in diverse regions around the globe.
  • We welcome refugees and refugee advocates to join us in an effort to help educate our participants about the needs of refugees and the challenges facing refugee populations today.

As a community, we believe that light and hope will ultimately triumph over darkness. And we act with love and deep humility in all that we do. We embrace the rich and beautiful tapestry that is all of humanity by honoring the triumph of the human spirit and the basic human dignity of all persons. We welcome a world where all can live in safe, supportive, and welcoming communities.
