Matt Ryan for Sheriff
As the former Mayor of Binghamton, Matt Ryan maintained the role of Commissioner of Public Safety. He was also a Public Defender for 15 years. Before he attended law school he served as a Division for Youth Counselor in Binghamton Urban homes. He has been building safe communities, working toward an equal justice system and striving for a humane rehabilitation throughout his career.
Our current sheriff unilaterally aligned himself with ICE and their troop of masked thugs. He is proud to call himself Trump’s man in Broome County.
Sheriffs have tremendous power, yet nearly 75 percent of the races for sheriff go uncontested. Without electoral and legislative checks, that power can quickly devolve into corruption, bullying, and authoritarianism. That's currently what is happening in Broome County.
This campaign is about kicking ICE out of Broome, expanding reentry and job training programs, and invigorating our democracy.
