Campaign for America's Future

Stop Paul Ryan

Ryan's Attack on the Safety Net
Paul Ryan wants to replace virtually all federal poverty programs with "opportunity grants" to the states. He proposes that we end food stamps, rental assistance and other vital programs and replace them with a check to state governors like Rick Perry and Scott Walker.

The governors, according to Ryan, will “personalize” anti-poverty measures. In his 73-page report released this month, he outlines the most audacious cut to the safety net in American history. Not a surprise: Ryan authored the slash-and-burn budgets passed the GOP House.

Republicans have a reputation for being callous towards the poor. And things haven’t changed. Ryan's "Opportunity Grant" is this decade's "Compassionate Conservatism." The only “opportunity” Ryan cares about is his and his party's electoral prospects.

About Campaign for America's Future
Campaign for America's Future is the strategy center for the progressive movement. For two decades we have fought back against the cynical campaign to tilt the playing field against the middle class.

With your help, history will remember 2014 as the year that the New Populism rose up and fought back.

Unlike many on the right, we do not have large corporate sponsors. Our independence and our impact comes from the generosity of individuals.
