Context

All In for North Carolina (AINC) is working to elect Rev. Rodney Sadler in the March 3 Democratic Primary for State Representative in NC House District 106 in Charlotte against 14-year incumbent Democrat Carla Cunningham. We are working closely with the Carolina Federation, a strong statewide community organizing group.

Why engage in a primary? Rev. Sadler is running because Cunningham has voted repeatedly with the Republicans to override Governor Josh Stein's vetoes of terrible legislation. She has been the deciding vote on several critical issues.

Our goal is $25,000. This is a local campaign in Charlotte NC with a relatively small budget and low voter turnout. Your contribution will make a significant difference: maximum bang for your bucks! This is a winnable race. Our support could make the difference in the outcome.

Rev. Sadler is a long-time community activist and leader with a deep base of support in the district. He has endorsements from dozens of local leaders.  Rev. Sadler has enthusiastic and active support from the labor movement with members in Charlotte, including the hospitality workers' union UNITE HERE, which made an early endorsement and is working hard to win this race.  North Carolina Governor Josh Stein just endorsed him on January 5th.

One bill Rep. Cunningham helped Republicans pass requires county sheriffs to pro-actively cooperate with ICE (the Mecklenburg County sheriff opposed it). Check out this (TV news report and) clip of a speech she gave on the NC House floor that outraged many Democrats, immigrants and advocates for immigrants: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JBozMpogL60

Another Cunningham vote with Republicans against Governor Stein's veto raised the cap on Duke Energy's emissions under the state's climate change goals. Not only was this a financial gift to Duke Energy, it will cause a lot more pollution in NC. The North Carolina League of Conservation Voters prominently displays Cunningham on their website as their #1 “Adversary” in the legislature, and says this: “Rep. Carla Cunningham’s environmental voting record says she does not care about the environment or her constituents...consistently supporting polluters over the financial and environmental well-being of her constituents.”
