Sara Kohen is running for Omaha Public Power District’s Board of Directors for District 1, in northwest Omaha and Bennington. Sara believes Nebraskans deserve reliable, affordable electricity and a public power system that puts people first. She is a mom, a wife, and an attorney who now works to engage families and build community as a school administrator.
OPPD needs strong, practical, and collaborative leadership on its Board of Directors. Unlike the privately owned utilities in other states—whose priorities often conflict with the public interest—OPPD is owned by the public, its customers. Sara will work to defend OPPD’s mission against efforts to undermine it.
Affordability is central to that mission. Electricity prices have risen more than 6% both this year and last, making it essential to control costs while continuing to invest in maintenance and long-term planning so that we have dependable electricity when we need it. Rapidly growing demand for electricity presents a challenge that requires thoughtful consideration, collaboration, and a fresh approach.
