The youngest child of a veteran and a social worker, Laurie-Anne Sayles learned early on that with hard work and dedication to service anything is possible.

As a mother raising her daughter alone, Laurie-Anne Sayles put herself through college, built a career in public health, and became a trailblazer as the first black woman elected to the Gaithersburg City Council and At-Large to the Montgomery County Council.

Laurie-Anne Sayles and her adult daughter live in Gaithersburg.
