Housing Is a Human Right. Tenant Power Makes It Possible.South Carolina Tenant Union is a grassroots, tenant-led organization of working-class renters building power across South Carolina. We center the experiences and leadership of Black and working-class tenants in a state with one of the highest eviction rates in the country. We believe housing, healthcare, and a living wage are human rights, not privileges reserved for those who can afford them.
We first came together during the COVID-19 pandemic to support tenants organizing against evictions, foreclosures, utility shut-offs, and other inhumane living conditions. Today, we’re building on that work by challenging and transforming the systems that push people into poverty, displacement, and homelessness.
Through mutual aid, political education, and basebuilding, we organize with tenants to build the collective power needed to win stronger tenant rights and lasting housing justice at the local, state, and federal levels.
