Did you know there is a 17-point gap in voter registration between white voters and voters of color in NC?
Closing this gap will help NC elect more representative leaders despite gerrymandering and voter suppression tactics. And the people best equipped to close that gap are the established organizations active in the Black, Latinx, AAPI, Indigenous and youth communities.
Our focus is on the Mecklenburg metropolitan area, home to Charlotte, where 80,000 citizens of color are unregistered to vote.
We are supporting two stand out organizations:
● North Carolina A. Philip Randolph Institute, a Black-led organization that consistently runs the largest voter registration programs in NC - they have collected over 160,000 registrations since 2016. In 2023, they registered 7,000 voters in Mecklenburg County.
● Action for the Climate Emergency is building the largest community of high-school aged climate advocates in the country and will focus on registering first-time youth voters in Charlotte in 2024.
Charitable funds can be spent registering historically
disadvantaged voters in a non-partisan way. For those of us who are concerned about the viability of our democracy and the inclusiveness of our political life, helping citizens become voters is one of the most effective things we can do.
