States Win for Michelle Kang (GA HD 99)

Michelle Kang is an advocate, small business owner, and community leader running to represent House District 99 in Georgia’s State House of Representatives. A first-generation immigrant, Michelle moved to Georgia more than 30 years ago to build a better life and now raises her family in the community she serves. Her lived experience shapes her belief that government should expand opportunity, support working families, and improve quality of life for all Georgians.

Michelle has built her career around service and economic opportunity. She earned her Master of Public Administration from the University of Georgia and went on to serve as center manager at the Asian American Resource Center in Gwinnett County, where she worked directly with immigrant families to connect them to critical services. She also owned and operated retail stores and restaurants across Georgia, giving her firsthand experience with the challenges small business owners face. Her background reflects a focus on practical problem-solving, community engagement, and economic growth.

Michelle previously ran for the Georgia House, earning over 48.93% of the vote and came within 621 votes of flipping the district. Now, she’s back to finish the job. Michelle understands the challenges families face—from rising costs to accessing opportunity in a rapidly growing community. Her campaign focuses on strengthening economic opportunity, supporting small businesses, expanding access to resources for working families, and ensuring government is responsive, effective, and representative of the communities it serves.

WHY THIS RACE

House District 99 is a key opportunity for Democrats to expand their coalition in Gwinnett County, one of the fastest-growing and most diverse regions in Georgia. As legislative maps continue to shape the political landscape, districts like House District 99 play an important role in building long-term Democratic strength and supporting candidates up and down the ballot. This race is critical for engaging diverse communities and continuing recent Democratic momentum in the region.

WHY GEORGIA

Georgia has emerged as one of the most competitive states in the country, with increasing population growth and shifting suburban dynamics reshaping its political landscape. While Democrats have made significant gains in recent years, Republicans continue to hold control of the state legislature, making down-ballot races critical to long-term change. Competitive House districts present key opportunities to chip away at that majority and build a more balanced and responsive state government. Georgia remains central to the national electoral map, with closely contested presidential and U.S. Senate races drawing significant attention, especially this year. Success in these races not only shapes policy at the state level but also reinforces Georgia’s role as a defining state in broader electoral strategy.
