Senator Darrin Camilleri is a dedicated public servant and educator, now representing Michigan’s 4th Senate District after winning his seat in 2022 with support from Sister District. Previously serving three terms in the State House, Darrin has been a champion for public education, workers’ rights, and environmental protection. The son of a Maltese immigrant and a Latina mother, he made history in 2016 as Michigan’s youngest Latino and first-ever Maltese-American legislator.
A former high school social studies teacher and first-generation college graduate from Kalamazoo College, Darrin brings his classroom experience to his legislative work, advocating for increased school funding, fair wages, and strong union protections. In the Senate, he continues his fight for equitable education, economic opportunity, and clean air and water for all Michiganders.
WHY THIS RACE
Darrin’s race is critical because he has been a driving force behind advancing Democratic priorities in Michigan. In the State Senate, he has championed investments in public education, defended workers’ rights, and fought to protect clean air and water. Drawing on his background as an educator, Darrin listens closely to his constituents and works tirelessly to deliver results that improve their lives. He won his seat in 2022 with the help of Sister District, flipping the Senate and securing a Democratic trifecta for the first time in decades. With Republicans eager to take back control, re-electing Darrin is essential to ensure Michigan remains a stronghold for democracy.
WHY MICHIGAN
Democrats flipped the Michigan Senate for the first time in nearly 40 years in 2022, securing a governing trifecta with Governor Whitmer and the previously Democratic State House. That historic trifecta delivered transformative progress on voting rights, gun safety, and reproductive freedom. After Republicans reclaimed the House in 2024, the Senate served as a steadfast blue wall against the MAGA agenda. With margins razor-thin, every seat matters.
