Chedrick Greene has dedicated his life to public service. He is a Marine veteran and firefighter with a proven track record as a community leader. Greene fought for our freedoms in the United States Marine Corps Reserve and is now fighting for those same freedoms at home. As State Senator, he will champion state-level protections for all rights currently under attack.
Chedrick enlisted in the Marines right out of high school and served for 30 years, achieving the highest rank possible for enlisted officers, Sergeant Major E-9. Overlapping his military service, he is in his 27th year with the City of Saginaw Fire Department, where he has led as Fire Captain and Community Relations Liaison. Most recently, Chedrick worked as District Assistant for then-State Senator Kristen McDonald Rivet, and even continued to do the job for months after the seat was vacated, ensuring that the 35th District’s residents were still supported.
Now, Chedrick Greene is seeking to continue his service to the 35th District as its State Senator and he is the Democratic nominee in the May 5 Special Election!
WHY THIS RACE
The outcome of this special election race will determine control of the Michigan Senate: if Republicans manage to flip the seat, the Senate will be evenly split, complicating efforts to pass key legislation on issues like education funding, infrastructure investment, and economic development. Holding this seat in the special election would not only preserve our Democratic majority in the chamber, but help carry Democratic momentum straight into the midterms.
WHY MICHIGAN
In 2022, Democrats flipped the Michigan Senate for the first time in nearly 40 years—securing a historic governing trifecta alongside Governor Whitmer and a Democratic State House. That breakthrough delivered transformative progress on voting rights, gun safety, and reproductive freedom. When Republicans clawed back the House in 2024, the Senate became a critical blue firewall, blocking the MAGA agenda and protecting hard-won gains. With margins this narrow, every seat truly matters.
Now, as Democrats prepare to elect a new Democratic governor to succeed Governor Whitmer and fight to reclaim the State House, maintaining—and expanding—the State Senate majority is essential. Holding this seat in the special election would not only preserve our Democratic majority in the chamber, but help carry Democratic momentum straight into the midterms.
