States Win for Jaime Churches (MI HD 27)

Jaime Churches is a States Win alumna, teacher, union vice president, and former member of the Michigan House of Representatives, who is running to reclaim the 27th State House seat. She first ran for State House in 2022, inspired by her students and her community to make an impact beyond the classroom.

Jaime is a keen listener and creative problem solver who is deeply committed to her community and state. She has seen firsthand how underinvestment in public education, small businesses, and working families has led to hardships and inequity for Downriver families. Her frustration with a state legislature that does not always represent hardworking Michiganders inspired her to stand up for change.

As the next State Representative for the 27th District, Jaime will draw on her skills and experience as an educator, organizer, and advocate to amplify Downriver voices and ensure they are heard loud and clear in Lansing.

WHY THIS RACE

Electing Jaime and sending her back to Lansing is a prime Democratic flip opportunity and is key to reclaiming a Democratic majority in 2026. She narrowly won this seat in 2022 with 50.8% of the vote before losing it by just over four points in 2024. Republicans currently control the Michigan House while Democrats hold the Governor’s mansion and Senate, so flipping HD-27 is essential to restoring a Democratic trifecta and advancing policies that protect reproductive freedom, strengthen public education, and support working families.

WHY MICHIGAN

In 2022, Democrats secured a trifecta in Michigan and delivered meaningful progress on voting rights, gun safety, and reproductive freedom. After Republicans reclaimed the House in 2024, it became the central battleground in Lansing, ushering in a divided government and slowing further progress. With margins razor thin, flipping the Michigan House in 2026 is essential to restoring a governing majority and ensuring the state can continue advancing policies that protect fundamental rights and support working families.
