Holly Lyon is a retired Air Force Colonel, educator, and leader running for the Arizona State House in Legislative District 17 alongside States Win alumnus Representative Kevin Volk. She began her career as a seventh-grade math teacher before serving 26 years in the United States Air Force, where she oversaw education, training, and strategic planning for tens of thousands of service members.
Holly is now running for the Arizona State House to give Legislative District 17 experienced leadership that listens, works through differences, and focuses on practical solutions that put working families and communities first.
WHY THIS RACE
Electing Holly Lyon would not only help Democrats move closer to flipping the Arizona House, but also replace one of the chamber’s most extreme MAGA voices with a retired Air Force Colonel and educator focused on affordability, government accountability, and protecting public education. In a state where control of the legislature could determine the future of reproductive rights, voting rights, and democratic norms, races like this are critical to building a governing majority that reflects Arizona’s changing electorate.
WHY ARIZONA
In the 2024 Arizona state legislative elections, Democrats faced significant headwinds and lost three seats while picking up one. Despite those challenges, Democrats have flipped key statewide offices and presidential votes in recent years. All 90 legislative seats and the governorship is up for grabs in 2026, giving Democrats a chance to shift the balance of power. Democratic victories in Arizona would help safeguard reproductive freedom, climate action, and voting rights while maintaining national momentum for the party.
